Survival Fitness InfoGraphicIn this article I’ll be talking about a subject that many preppers have a tendency to overlook and that is the importance of making sure that we all stay fit enough to actually survive during a major crisis.

If this isn’t something that you have ever given much thought to, you’re certainly not alone. As a matter of fact, if you were to ask a room full of people who are guilty of not being physically fit, I would have to raise my hand and so would my husband.

Many of us preppers spend a lot of time preparing to survive at home during a major natural disaster or a crisis. A lot of us also have plans in place in the event that we should ever need to bug out and leave our home to seek the safety of an alternative location.

One thing that not many people think about is that it’s entirely possible that they could do everything right as far as storing food, water, and medical supplies and still end up struggling to survive. I like to think of myself as a fairly optimistic person and I don’t like to dwell on the gloom and doom scenarios too much but I’m also a realist. I’m fully aware that a situation could arise where millions of people are going hungry and frantically searching for anything that they can possibly find to eat.

If this were to ever actually happen, the first thing that hungry marauders would do would be to ransack all of the local supermarkets. The shelves would be picked clean in a matter of hours. This isn’t just my opinion either. This statement is based upon facts. All we need to do is look back at some of the major natural disasters that have struck in various places around the world to see this exact type of behavior.

To Survive You May Have To Stay Mobile

I think that the most prepper’s primary strategy is to try to survive at home unless a situation arises that makes it too dangerous to stay at home. In this case, many of them plan on bugging out to a prearranged location that they feel will be safe. This is all well and good but if we are to plan for all possible scenarios, we have to accept the fact that in order to survive, we may have to keep moving.

If you have to bug out because looters and marauders have made it unsafe to stay at your home, what do you think will happen when they discover your bug out camp? If they suspect that you have supplies, and they are in large enough numbers, no matter what you try to do, they’ll end up taking your supplies by whatever means necessary.

In order to stay mobile, you’re going to have to be fit enough for a couple of things. The first is that you’re going to have to be fit enough to carry a pack full of supplies. You’re also going to have to be fit enough to outpace those who might be pursuing you.

Surviving Is Tough Work

If you’re used to a 9-to-5 job sitting behind a desk and you find yourself in a survival situation, you’re going to learn very quickly how tough surviving can actually be. Sure, you’ll have some supplies in your bug out bag if you planned ahead of time but there will still be a lot of work to do. Much of that work will be very labor-intensive such as gathering firewood, building shelters, and packing water.

For many of us who plan on bugging out in very remote locations, the mere act of getting to our bug out location will be quite tasking. One thing to keep in mind is that the farther you are away from those who would intend to harm you, the safer you’ll be. For those of us who are planning for this type of scenario, this will mean hiking with a fully loaded pack over quite some distance.

There’s No Time like the Present to Get Started

My husband and I have decided to make it a priority to get in shape so that we are prepared physically to survive should we ever need to. You’ve undoubtedly heard the expression, “survival of the fittest”. During an end of days scenario, we’re all going to find out exactly how true this expression really is. The question you have to ask yourself is will you be ready when that day comes?

Never Quit Learning

My philosophy when it comes to prepping is to never quit learning. It’s with this in mind that I encourage you to read my article called Learning How to Catch Fish Could Feed Your Family After Doomsday.
